Mt. SAC wideout is putting up big numbers

A wide receiver putting up huge numbers so far this year for the number one JUCO program in the country is Mt. San Antonio's Mike Edwards (6-0, 180). While his productivity has been outstanding this year, he's still waiting for four-year schools to take notice...
Edwards enjoyed a solid prep career at Glendora (Ca.) High School, but was unable to qualify for a scholarship to play college football. So, with little in the way of options, he decided to head to Mt. San Antonio to continue his football career.
"It was far enough away from home that it didn't feel like I was still in high school, but it was still close," Edwards told JCFootball.com recently. "It's also a great program, so you can't beat the opportunity they offered me to come and learn and get my academics right."
After a solid freshman season in 2008, Edwards had to sit out the 2009 season while he put extra time in the classroom.
"I got lazy and didn't get it done, but I'm good now," Edwards noted. "I got focused and realized this was my last chance to get where I want to go."
So far this season, Edwards has made the most of his second chance, hauling in 16 receptions for 379 yards and four touchdowns while starting at the 'X' receiver position in the Mounties' wide-open attack.
"My coaches say that I run great routes and I have consistent hands," Edwards said. "My coaches said they like my consistency the most and that I'm reliable."
Recruiting hasn't really started for Edwards at this point although he did receive a call from an FCS school recently.
"Northern Arizona called me in the last week or so," Edwards said. "Other than them, no one has really showed me much in the way of interest.
"I figured if I had a good season, I might get some looks and that's still what I'm hoping for. I'll just go out and play my game and let the rest take care of itself because I can't really control the other stuff."
Edwards is on pace to finish his AA in February and he'll have two years to play two wherever he ends up.
