Francesconi close to several offers

One of the top unsigned JUCO linebackers in the country right now is College of San Mateo's Brandon Francesconi (6-3, 235), but that could change very soon if things pan out. JCFootball.com spoke to the talented linebacker prospect recently and he updated on on things including which six FBS schools have told that his patience could pay off in the very near future...

Francesconi prepped at Burlingame (Ca.) High School and had a walk-on offer from BYU, but decided to go the JC route in order to earn a scholarship to a D-1 program.

"I thought I could play D-1 football, so that's why I came to CSM," Francesconi told JCFootball.com. "They have a great reputation here for getting guys ready to play ball at the next level and they always have a lot of guys sign with four-year schools, so that was why it was the right fit."

As a freshman in 2009, Francesconi was a key backup on a team that lost in the state championship game and this past season, as a sophomore, he started both outside and inside for the Bulldogs and racked up over 60 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, two sacks and one interception.

"I can play inside or outside and I started at both spots, depending on the team we were playing," Francesconi noted. "We play a 3-4, so I'm used to playing both and it just depends on what the program who wants me, wants me to do."

Speaking of that, there are six D-1 programs who have shown him quite a bit of interest since the beginning of the year and he could be getting some good news in the very near future.

"Miami, Arizona State, USC, UTEP, San Jose State and Nevada have all been recruiting me pretty hard," Francesconi said. "They have told me they are probably going to offer and they just need me to be a little patient, so that's sorta what I'm doing right now.

"It's tough waiting, but all I want to do is play D-1, so if that's what I have to do, just wait it out, that's what I have to do."

Francesconi was a full-qualifier out of high school, so he can leave at any time, but he will have his AA degree at the end of the semester and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
