As part of Washington's impressive 2010 recruiting class, it was expected that current Arizona Western S Chris Young (6-0, 215) would head back to the Seattle area once he completed his two-year degree. However, things have taken a turn and now he is open to anyone that wants to give him a look. JCFootball.com caught up with the hard-hitting prospect and he updated us on things...
"Things were great this year," Young told JCFootball.com. "I had a good year and we had a great year as a team. I want my sophomore season to be even better and I think we have a chance to do something special."
While playing strong safety for the Gauchos this past season, Young was an integral part of a defense that allowed just 194 yards per game and 16.9 points per game by racking up over 70 tackles to go along with two interceptions.
"I was supposed to come in and play linebacker, but that didn't work out," Young said. "I think they felt like they wanted me in the secondary, so that's where I played.
"I'll probably play safety again this year and then, depending on where I end up, I could play safety or linebacker at the four-year school I sign with."
Speaking of recruiting, Young, who hails from Auburn,
Washington
said that he originally had thought he would only return to the Seattle area and play for Washington, the school he signed with, however, he now says he wants to take things slow and keep his options open.
"I made a real quick decision in high school because that was the school I wanted to go to," Young said. "This time around, I'm still highly considering them, but I'm also looking at schools in the rest of the Pac 12, especially
USC
and
Oregon
.
"I haven't talked to the (Washington) coaches for a while. Probably since before the end of the year, so I'm not really sure where things stand with them, but I have a long time until I need to make a decision.
"I just want to see how things go this spring and summer and see which schools are the most interested and then I will take some visits and go from there."
Young said he plans to load up on coursework this summer to ensure that he will be done in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
