Decision time for Berry?

#16 Cody Berry

This past week, L.A. Pierce S Cody Berry (6-2, 215) visited Florida International and now that he's returned back to southern California he's got a decision to make. He updated JCFootball.com on Monday about his visit as well as what may or may not happen with his recruitment down the road...

"It was a real, real good visit," Berry told JCFootball.com. "I had a real great time there and got to speak with all the coaches and a lot of the players.

"They said they definitely need someone in for this season to play a certain position, but they said they were going to bring in another (JC) safety to visit this week and then the first one to commit is the one they will take.

"They did tell me that if I didn't commit, that they would renew my offer for next year, so that's an option I have no matter what decision I make."

Berry started five games for Pierce in 2010 and could play either safety position but his specialty is dropping back into coverage.

"I'm more of a ballhawk," Berry admitted. "I like to make plays on the ball and read the ball in the air a little more.

"I played receiver in high school and that's why I think I have pretty good ball skills, so it's been a little bit of an adjustment for me playing safety.

"I can come up and hit you and make tackles in the open field, but if I have my choice, it's going up and getting the ball and getting it back for my offense."

In addition to his offer from Florida International, Berry is has seen quite a bit of interest from Arkansas State, Ole Miss, Arizona, Kansas State, Iowa State, Portland State, Texas State and Central Arkansas.

"I'll sorta weigh things out and decide what I'm going to do pretty soon," Berry said. "I'm leaning toward returning to Pierce this season and seeing what other options I have, but it's something I need to consider."

If he signs with the Panthers and enrolls for this season he will have four years to play three, however if he decides to return to L.A. Pierce he would have three years to play two following the 2011 football season.

JCFootball.com will have more on Berry's visit next week and we will update news as it happens.
