Patterson receives dual Offensive POY honors
Patterson, a 6-foot-4, 211-pound sophomore from Rock Hill, S.C., is considered the top junior college prospect this season, joins LaDarrian Page and Eugene Kinlaw as winners of the Jayhawk's Player of the Year Awards in the Rhoades era. Both Page and Kinlaw won their awards in 2008.
Patterson was named first team all-conference and all-region as a receiver and return specialist this season.
Patterson has re-wrote the Blue Dragon record book, now holding or sharing 10 career or single-season records.
Patterson has been used in a variety of ways to bolster the highest-scoring offense in Blue Dragon football history this season. Through 11 games, Patterson has caught 53 passes for 806 yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. His 53 receptions are tied for second on the single-season list, just one reception shy of tying Lonnie Crittendon's team record of 54. His 806 receiving yards are fifth.
As a kick returner, Patterson averaged an NJCAA-best 51.8 yards per return average on 10 returns with three touchdowns. Patterson owns three of the top four all-time kickoff returns with TDs of 98, 97 and 96 yards in his career. He had two kickoff returns for touchdowns against Kilgore.
Patterson has also been a threat running the ball with 369 yards on just 28 carries (13.2 yards per rush) and six touchdowns.
Patterson has accounted for 1,686 yards of all-purpose offense and averaged 18.5 yards every time he touched the football. He broke 200 all-purpose yards three times this season.
The freshman All-American scored touchdowns in 10 of 11 games this season 21 touchdowns. That total and the 126 points scored tied two single-season records with the great Mack Herron (1966-67).
For his career, Patterson has a team-record 105 receptions for 1,714 yards, which his 34 yards shy of Crittendon's career receiving yards record. He has a school-record 33 career touchdowns – Patterson has scored a TD in 19 of 22 games played – and has a team-record 198 points.
Patterson has returned a school-record six kicks (5 kickoffs, 1 punt) for touchdowns. He has the career record of 41.9 yards per kickoff return. Patterson also owns the team-record for career all-purpose yards with 3,251 (392 rushing, 1,714 receiving, 234 punt returns, 921 kickoff returns).
Patterson will have one more game as a Blue Dragon, which will be the Salt City Bowl on Dec. 3 at Gowans Stadium.
