Willis hopes to see recruiting pick up soon
"I'm a MIK (middle linebacker) guy and I feel real comfortable inside," Willis told JCFootball.com recently. "I always finish. I always play with a lot of passion and fire. I love to play this game and compete."
Willis signed with Air Force out of high school and was in the Falcons' rotation at linebacker during his freshman season, but after spending a year there, he decided that he needed a fresh start and headed back home to play for Harbor.
"We got real lucky to get Matt back," Harbor head coach Brett Peabody told JCFootball.com this past summer. "He's just a great player and a leader. He's got great instincts and he'll make plays for us."
On the recruiting front, Willis had been hearing from Nebraska and Texas A&M as well as Utah State, but those schools have all pulled back at this point.
"Things have been picking up with some different schools," Willis noted. "I've been hearing from Syracuse, Oregon, Miami, Washington State and some WAC schools too.
"I'm just looking for an offer and a place I can keep playing ball and get a good education. I'm not real particular on where it is, at least, not right now."
Willis can sign with a school starting February 1st and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
