Vandals land All-American JUCO LB

One of the top JUCO linebackers in the country, L.A. Harbor's Matt Willis (6-0, 220), took an official visit to Idaho over the weekend and while he was on campus, he decided he'd seen enough and he committed to the Vandals...

"I committed on my trip to Idaho," an excited and relieved Willis told JCFootball.com. "I loved my visit there and the support the staff showed me while I was there.

"I got along great with the head coach (Robb Akey) and the defensive coordinator (Mark Criner) and I'm looking forward to getting there and helping them win a WAC championship."

Besides the unmatched support he felt from the football staff, Willis also noted how the academic staff showed him support as well.

"I got a tour of the business department by the dean of the Business School, so that just shows you how supportive they are of the football program," Willis noted. "I thought that was great because that meant a lot to me because I wanted to see what the academic side was like as well."

Willis signed with Air Force out of high school and was in the Falcons' rotation at linebacker during his freshman season, but after spending a year there, he decided that he needed a fresh start and headed back home to play for Harbor.

"We got real lucky to get Matt back," Harbor head coach Brett Peabody told JCFootball.com over the summer. "He's just a great player and a leader. He's got great instincts and he'll make plays for us."

Willis plans to enroll at Idaho in May in time to start summer school and will have three years to play two when he arrives on Moscow.
