Denker has arm, will travel

A JUCO signal-caller still looking for a home is Cerritos QB B.J. Denker (6-3, 190). The athletic gun-slinger had a solid sophomore campaign in 2011 and he's waiting patiently for schools to figure out their needs at the position before he makes a decision...

"I've got some smaller schools recruiting me, but I want to wait and see what else is out there," Denker told JCFootball.com recently. "I know I can play at the highest level, but I just need the chance to show it and my coaches think that after spring ball, that is when a lot of schools will start to figure out what they need and hopefully someone will take a chance on me."

Denker is a lefty who had a solid season for the Falcons, leading them to the Southern California Championship Game where they lost 17-14 to Mt. San Antonio. Denker is a good leader with an above-average arm and completed 56% of his passes for 2,319 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and he has enough athleticism and agility to be a threat with his legs, rushing for 430 yards and seven touchdowns.

"I'm pretty mobile and if you had asked me a couple of years ago what I was I would have said I was an athlete playing quarterback," Denker admitted. "But now I'd say I'm a quarterback who can move because I've worked a lot on my mechanics and my overall knowledge of the position.

"I read defenses well and I definitely would rather throw the ball down the field, get it to my playmakers and let them make the plays because that's what they are there to do.'

Cerritos struggled early last season before catching fire down the stretch and Denker was a big reason why.

"Our team was real young and it took us time to mesh, but when we did it was pretty explosive," Denker noted. "We had a blast. We had some of us step up as leaders and take things on and that really a lot of fun.

"It would have been great to win a state title, but we came back and played really well and I think we showed that we could beat and play with anybody."

Denker is ready to go right now and he will have two years to play two wherever he ends up.
