Blinn's Broussard leads the deep patrol
"This offseason my goal has been to get stronger and add more size and then you always want to get faster. I run a 4.5 right now and I want to get that down to a 4.4, so I've done a lot of speed training too."
As a prep at Beaumont (Tx.) Central High School, Broussard enjoyed a solid career, however, he didn't get a lot of attention from colleges and so he opted to enroll at Blinn where he felt he could maximize the attention he got and possibly earn a scholarship to a D-1 school.
"I had some D-2 offers, but I felt like I was better off trying to play D-1 ball and I wanted to give myself another shot," Broussard, who was a full-qualifier academically, recalled. "Cam (Newton) had just graduated from here and gone on to do some great things and they won a championship, so I decided coming here was the best move for me."
His freshman season back in 2010 saw him getting ahead on his academics while also working in Blinn's weight and conditioning program and all of that work paid off with a solid 2011 as he racked up 47 tackles and one interception from his free safety spot.
"We played mainly one side and we run a complex system where we run one coverage on one side and another coverage on the other side," Broussard said. "It's a great system though and it allows us to play fast and be aggressive and we win, so I like what we do."
On the recruiting front, things have been picking up for Broussard with looks from three school including one that could be looking to bring him in this fall.
"I've been talking the most with coach Zac (Spavital) from Houston and he said they would love to get me there this summer," Broussard said. "I'm interested in that, but since they haven't offered, I'm just sorta waiting to see what happens.
"Other than them, Kansas State has been talking to me and Oklahoma State has been sending me a lot of letters."
If Broussard signs with a school this summer he would have three years to play three, but if he returns to Blinn and plays this fall he would sign with a school in December and he would then have two years to play two.
We will continue to keep track of Broussard's progress through the recruiting process and we will update news as it happens.
