One of the top JUCO safeties in the country this year is proving to be Holmes S Taj Letman (6-3, 198) and he has the offers to prove it. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented defensive back recently and he updated us on which schools have offered as well as what he brings to the table when he steps on the field...

Letman prepped at Houston County High School in Warner Robins, Georgia and was a three-sport, All-State athlete but he was unable to qualify, so he decided to listen to the advice of his coach and head to Holmes to get things in order.

"I was All-State in football, basketball and track and I had a bunch of schools after me, but I wasn't able to get my score on the ACT, so they all sorta dried up," Letman told JCFootball.com. "My coach knew the coach out here and he said if I needed to get away and start fresh, it would be a great place for me and I've been really happy with my decision because I've been able to get it done."

As a freshman last season, Letman started all nine games and finished with 56 tackles from his free safety spot.

"We don't really play a true free safety spot. We're more of a left and right safety, but I was deep more than I was closer to the line," Letman said. "I'd say my strength is stopping the run the most, but I can cover too. Mostly, I just like being in the action and being physical.

"I'm pretty good in coverage, but I've been working a lot on my footwork so I can be even better and that's going to help me out a lot."

So far this offseason, Letman has been very popular with four year coaches, hauling in 10 offers.

"Right now my offers are from Georgia, Purdue, Kentucky, Nebraska, South Alabama, UNC-Charlotte, Marshall and Baylor," Letman said. "I'm open to everyone that wants to recruit me and I want to take my visits before I make my decision.

"It's great having the offers and it just motivates me to work even harder."

Letman is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2012 football season.
