Holmes CC athlete Taj Letman (6’3, 195) is one of the top Juco safety prospects in the country in the 2013 class. The Warner Robins, Georgia native is currently holding 12 offers, the latest coming from Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns in the Sun Belt. Letman took a few minutes out of his afternoon to talk to Louisiana Scout.com about the Ragin’ Cajuns.
“ULL is my latest offer from the list of twelve that I now hold”, Taj stated. “I didn’t know much about them until Coach
Reed Stringer
spoke to me about their program. He told me they have an indoor practice facility and the program was on the rise; they also have some guys that signed with SEC programs transfer in this summer. I knew they were in a bowl game, but I’ve never been down to the campus to check things out.”
With Letman holding offers from such programs like
Purdue
,
Nebraska
,
Kentucky
and
Baylor
, what is his interest in Louisiana’s Ragin ‘Cajuns?
“I’m absolutely interested in ULL,” mentioned Taj. “I talk to Coach Hud (
Mark Hudspeth
) and he wants me to come down before the season and take a look around; I’m going to try and come down one weekend before we start camp and meet the coaches, and look around at the facilities. They are definitely a program that I have interest in visiting.”
Taj Letman
was a three-sport, all state athlete coming out of Houston County High School in Warner Robins, Georgia, but fell short on his ACT score to qualify as a true freshman in college.
“My grades were good enough coming out of high school, but I wasn’t able to get my score on the ACT,” Letman said. “I was All-State in football, basketball and track and I had a bunch of schools talking to me but everything just kind of dried up for me afterwards. My high school coach knew some coaches at Hinds and thought it might be the best place for me to get a fresh start.”
Letman started all nine games as a freshman last season, finishing the 2011 season with 56 tackles. Taj is listed as a free safety on the Holmes roster, but he can play both safety positions.
“We really don’t have a true free or strong safety position, both positions kind of do similar things,” Letman mentioned. “I played a lot of deep coverage, but I also walked up at times and played in the box. I’m pretty good in coverage, but I can play in the box and stop the run. I’m really trying to improve my footwork in coverage this summer to become a more complete player.”
According to Taj Letman, he is on pace to graduate in December and will have three years to play two following the 2012 football season.
