The Texas A&M recruiting train keeps churning as commitment No. 27 is now in the books for the class…
Team Preview: Hutchinson
As a two-year starter, Elliott Alford threw for almost 4,000 yards while rushing for nearly 1,000 and accounting for over 50 touchdowns.
Vying to take his place are the likes of Slader McVey and Kody Cook. The former is an option specialist while the latter is more of a drop-back type, but has the ability to win games with either his arm or his legs.
In the backfield with whoever winds up the starter at quarterback will be Terrell Lane (377 yards and seven touchdowns) and LaQua Mayes (190 yards and three touchdowns).
Also in the mix will be the multi-talented Jatavious Stewart who can line up at several positions, but he will see most of his reps outside for the Blue Dragons where he returns after hauling in 42 receptions for 659 yards and 10 touchdowns while also rushing for 195 yards and two more scores.
Stewart has already hauled in offers from the likes of Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, West Virginia, Baylor, Indiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma Sate and Penn State among others and plans to make a decision before the end of the summer.
Shawn Conway comes from Butte College in California and he joins Miguel Johns and Isaac Mallory, who both return, in the receiver corps as well.
They will be complemented by the presence of TE Zach Tipton who returns after posting six receptions for 97 yards. While those numbers aren't big by any stretch, Tipton does his best work as a blocker.
The offensive line is led by Devonte Danzey who has offers from Kansas, Troy and South Florida. The rest of the group are youngsters who have bright futures, but it's unclear of how the starters will shake out at this point in time.
Along the defensive line, the Blue Dragons are led up front by a duo who could likely be the best pair in the country in Ben Bradley and Toby Johnson. Both have a handful of offers and are absolutely immovable inside.
Roderick Johnson and Robert Zimmerman are also expected to be heavy contributors.
The linebacker corps has a lot of depth to go along with a lot of talent and with players like Timmy Chadd, Kenny Flowers, DeVondre Campbell, Antonio Longino and Darrius Stroud they are well-stocked. Chad finished third on the team in tackles with 66 last season while Stroud racked up 56 to to go along with 2.5 sacks.
The secondary returns Xavier McFadden who will lead a young group of defensive backs this fall.
Hutchinson opens the season with a game against Coffeyville in the Cox Kansas Kickoff Classic on August 25th at home before they face off against Navarro College on the road the following week.
The Blue Dragons will take on rival Butler to finished the season on October 27th at home.
