Willis Takes in SEC Visit

Former South Florida commitment Nate Willis has emerged as one of the most coveted junior college defensive backs in the country. This past weekend, Willis took an official visit to Mississippi State to see if the Bulldogs were a good fit for him. FOXSportsNext caught up with him for a recap of his time in Starkville.

"My visit to Mississippi State went really, really well," said Willis. "My host the first day was a freshman (Quadry Antoine) and then my other host was the running back LaDarius Perkins.

"They were both real cool guys and I enjoyed getting to know them."

Willis was on hand to see the Bulldogs shut down the Arkansas pass happy attack in a resounding 35-14 victory.

"I really enjoyed the game," said Willis. "I loved the atmosphere and I loved the fans.

"I love how the fans support the players. That was great to see.

"I like how they play defense at Mississippi State. Their secondary played really good and they had a little pass rush.

"I saw Denico Autry out there making plays. Darius Slay and Johnthan Banks and #24 (Jamerson Love) and (Corey) Broomfield and #5 (Nickoe Whitley) were all making plays.

"They play hard and they like to cover. I could see myself playing in a system like that."

Willis was able to get the grand tour of the Bulldog campus and facilities, but he points out that the people of Mississippi State made the biggest impact.

"I really liked hanging out with all of the players and getting to talk to the coaches," said Mills. "I met with Coach Mullen and he is a great coach and a great person.

"All of their coaches are like that. They are just good people and they made me feel welcome there."

While willis was impressed with his time on campus, the subject of committing never came up.

"You know Mississippi State is the only school that hasn't tried to pressure me into making a decision," said Willis. "Coach Mullen said that he wants me to take my visits and be able to compare Mississippi State to everybody else before I make a decision."

Willis' next official visit will come early next month.

"I am going to visit West Virginia on December 7th and then I am setting something up with Baylor," explained Willis. "I am probably going to take a visit to South Florida, but I will just see how things go.

"I know they really want a guy who can come in January, so they may be interested in me since I can't come until the summer."

With his college destination still unsettled, Willis admits that his visit to Mississippi State may have an impact on the outcome.

"Mississippi State is a school I am looking real hard at right now," said Willis. "They have everything I am looking for in a school and a football program.

"I am really liking them right now. I am just going to take my time and be sure about everything before I make my decision."
