Quarterback Jacquez Johnson put together an All-Star high school career at Starkville High. The talented signal caller did not receive the sort of recruiting attention he hoped for, so he elected to enroll at East Mississippi Community College in an attempt to boost his stock as a major college prospect. On Monday, Johnson committed to Florida Atlantic.

"I committed today," said Johnson. "I took my official visit down there this weekend and I decided to commit today."

The NJCAA Region 23 Offensive Player of the Year reports that his visit to Boca Raton was a very enjoyable experience.

"I had a great time down there," said Johnson. "I got to go to the beach.

"It's always sunny down there and it's warm weather.

"It's a great atmosphere down there and I feel like I have a good opportunity there.

"They want to win and they want to win the Sunbelt.

"I was looking for a a program that was committed to winning."

Following a redshirt year at EMCC, Johnson put together a superb freshman season. The dual threat threw for 2,846 yards and 27 touchdowns to go along with 540 rushing yards and 12 scores of his own.

"They have a senior starter this year," said Johnson. "Since I redshirted last year, I am going to have three years to play three once I get down there.

"I am going to work hard to learn the system and try to earn the starting job and be the starter for three years."

Johnson commits to the Owls over an offer from Tennessee-Martin among others and strong interest from Houston and Southern Miss.
