Santa Maria (Calif.) Allan Hancock defensive tackle Brian Price recently received some good news, as he picked up his first offer from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
"I'm pretty excited about getting the offer from UTSA. It's great. I've been researching them a bit. I'm really optimistic about this opportunity and am thankful for it," he said.
The 6-foot-3, 315-pound lineman had been staying in touch with his recruiter, the Road Runners' running backs coach, Polo Gutierrez, before receiving the good news.
"He came by last week to talk with me and I just got word that the head coach, Larry Coker, and defensive line coach, Eric Roark, are coming to talk with me this week," he said.
The tackle, who has four years to play three, is seriously considering the opportunity.
"As of right now, I think there's a good chance I could go down to Texas and play next season. I'm going to go down to the campus for a visit in a couple of weeks," he said.
Price recorded 61 tackles this season; he can bench 415 pounds and squat 600 pounds. Though the team went 5-5, Price says he could see an improvement on the field throughout the season.
"As a team, I think we really improved offensively. Our chemistry got better out front this season. It meant a lot to me to play. I think we got closer as the season got on.
"Individually, as every game passed, I made adjustments to myself and how I read the offense. I watched more film. I like to mix it up a bit on the field. I have to keep my opponent guessing. I don't think there's just one thing I do on the field," he said.
JUCO National Signing Day is on December 19th, 2012.
