Syracuse is looking to add talent to the offensive line in their 2013 class. They have hit the JUCO ranks hard to bolster their talent up front. One recent offeree is Dionte Savage out of Arizona Western.
"I'm very aggressive," Savage described. "I play very aggressive and play with a lot of emotion. I would say I'm a better run blocker. But I can pass block too. I can pass block pretty well, but I can run block better right now."
Interest in the talented lineman has picked up recently. Only holding two offers, he is talking to several other schools as he looks towards football at the next level.
"Only Syracuse and Akron have offered me," Savage explained. "Those are the only two that have really offered me right now. I've been talking to a lot of schools over the last few weeks. I've talked to Kansas State, Washington State, University of California, and Purdue. That's really the list of schools showing me interest right now."
Assistant coach Greg Adkins identified Savage as a talented lineman would could help the Orange while attending a practice at Arizona Western. The 6-foot-5 prospect was excited about the offer and what he could bring to Syracuse.
"It's the offensive line coach that's recruiting me," Savage detailed. "He came in while we were at practice. He watched the practice and then talked to me after the practice. He told me how much he liked me and the type of player I was. He wants to bring me into Syracuse to play.
"I was very happy when he offered. I like Syracuse and I have a visit there on January 18th. I'm going to go down there. I like Syracuse and I'm ready to see more and see what the school is all about. If I like it, then I think I'll sign."
Being one of only two offers, Savage is very high on Syracuse. He likes what Adkins has told him and has them as his favorite right now, though it is early in the process.
"If I like what I see on my visit, I could commit," Savage admitted. "They're my favorite right now. Based on everything because my only other offer is Akron. But I have a lot of schools interested in me. I'm looking for a school that's going to commit to me. I want them to want me, and then I'll commit to them. I want a coach that's hard working and will listen. That's all I could ever ask for.
"Adkins is a real cool coach. We get along really well because he doesn't sugar coat anything as far as the program and stuff like that. He was just telling me things we need to work on. He's a pretty cool dude. I'm just looking forward to going down there for the visit to see how it really is down there."
Savage's time frame is up in the air. He's going to see how things go between now and his visit to Syracuse, and see where things stand then. Regardless, the Orange appear to be in a good position with the 345-pound prospect.
"The time frame really doesn't matter to me," Savage said. "Like I said, if I like the school when I take the visit, I'll be ready to sign. But if by the time January comes if I have other offers from schools that I'm speaking, and I can take the visit before signing day, then I'll do that. So I'll either sign with Syracuse or sign on signing day."
