Washington Still Debating

The past week has proven to be pretty eventful for Hartnell cornerback Carroll Washington. Considered one of the best in the country at his position, Washington is certain he will be playing in the SEC's rugged western division next fall. After an official visit to Mississippi State, the Arkansas verbal reports he still has some things to sort through.

"My visit to Mississippi State went really good," said Washington. "The people were nice and the campus were real nice.

"Their facilities were extremely nice. They were nicer than I expected them to be.

"I got to see everything and talk with the players. It was a nice time."

Washington was hosted by Bulldog sophomore defensive back Jay Hughes.

"I really liked Jay a lot," said Washington. "He told me a lot about how things were there and he showed me around.

"I feel like we could be good friends. He told me before I left that he wanted us to stay in touch no matter what I decided.

"He's a good guy and I feel like he meant that."

The Maryland native was able to have a face to face with Coach Dan Mullen prior to returning to California.

"Coach Mullen told me about what they are trying to do there and he told me how much they wanted me there," said Washington. "He talked some about his background and about the kind of players they are bringing in.

"He told me that he was going to come out and see me this week, so we could visit and talk some more about things."

Mullen will not be the only coach making the effort to have some in person contact before the mid year signing period opens next week.

"I have talked to Coach (Bert) Bielema a couple of times since he got hired," said Washington. "I talked to him the day after he got hired and then I talked to him yesterday.

"He is coming out here to see me on Thursday."

As the process winds down, Washington continues to take stock of where he is and where he wants to be for the next two years.

"I am still committed to Arkansas, but I am not going to have a final decision until after I go home," said Washington. "I am going to go home this weekend and I am going to sit down with my family and talk about everything.

"I am going to look at each school and look at the pros and cons at both of them.

"Once I do that, then I will be ready to make my decision."
