Vandenburg names top schools

College of the Desert TE Brandon Vandenburg (6-6, 250) has been one of the most sought-after JUCO recruits in the country since the end of the season, hauling in offers from across the country. Recently, he picked up three new offers and he told JCFootball.com he has five schools in mind at this point...

"I just picked up offers from Fresno State, San Jose State and Tennessee," Vandenburg told JCFootball.com. "I'm trying to get closer to making my decision. I'm looking closely into Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Miami, Tennessee and San Diego State in that order.

"I would say Nebraska, Vanderbilt and Miami are a top three and the other ones are ones that I am researching further.

"I am visiting Vanderbilt on January 25th and I'm trying to set up visits with Miami and Nebraska for that month too."

In addition to his offers from those five schools, Vandenburg also has full rides from California, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Fresno State, Hawaii, Kansas State, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Nevada, Pittsburgh, San Jose State and Texas A&M.

This season, Vandenburg finished second on the Roadrunners with 24 receptions for 353 yards and three touchdowns.

"They split me out a lot and I also play with my hand down," Vandenburg noted. "I feel pretty comfortable doing both, so I can do whatever they need me to do."

Vandenburg played wide receiver in high school, but because he attended such a small school, not a lot of college coaches came to see what he could do.

"I decided to sign with San Diego, but when I got there, the competition level wasn't what I was expecting and I felt like I could play at a higher level," Vandenburg recalled. "I came to Desert because it's close to home, where I grew up, so that allowed me to save some money and also it's got a good program and they get a lot of guys out into D-1 programs."

Vandenburg will have three years to play two whereve he ends up.
