Oregon State lands elite JUCO DB

DB Steven Nelson

Visalia (Calif.) College of the Sequoias JC defensive back Steven Nelson has been a long time lean to Oregon State and on Wednesday, the talented corner decided to make it official.

Steven Nelson, who originally committed to Georgia, has favored Oregon State for the last few months after taking his official visit to Corvallis in early October. It always seemed to be more of a matter of when and not if Nelson would announce for the Beavers.

"I wanted to wait until next week for the JC Signing Day but it's cool, I'm happy to let everyone know I'm going to Oregon State. I had a great relationship with the DB coach Rod Perry and that was probably the biggest factor. He's a great coach, he played in the NFL and coached there and that's my dream too.

"I know coach Perry can help me get there and plus I think he's a great guy too. I like the depth chart at Oregon State and the chance to play early. Jordan Poyer is graduating and he's an All-American, hopefully I can come in and replace and have the same impact on the field he did."

Nelson took an official visit this past weekend to Houston after cancelling a visit to Ole Miss the week before. He was also hearing from Baylor, USC, Texas Tech and Washington State and all but the Trojans had offered. Nelson will enroll in time for Spring ball and has three years to play two for the Beavs.
