From the West Coast to Western Kentucky
Los Angeles Harbor College wide receiver Lonnie Turner is making a move from the West Coast to Western Kentucky. Turner signed with WKU from his junior college on Dec. 19. "They called me up a couple days ago," he said. "Coach (Kevin) Peoples, he said he saw my film and loved it. "They offered me, then I signed today at my coach's signing ceremony. It feels great to be a Hilltopper, I'm excited to get up there." Los Angeles Harbor College had several other players sign with FBS programs at the ceremony, including linebacker Joe Walker to Oregon and cornerback Cleshawn Page to Boise State. Although his recruitment to WKU just started recently, Turner said he already knows a bit about the Hilltoppers. "I know they're in the Sun Belt, I took a virtual tour of the place," he said. "I watched some highlights from some other seasons too." The 5-foot-10 wide receiver was complimentary of new WKU assistant coach Kevin Peoples. "I like him (Peoples) alot," Turner said. "He calls me by my nickname (Trey). "He's a cool dude, I can't wait to meet him in person." Turner said he'll bring several skills with him to WKU, including 4.4 second 40-yard speed. "I can play outside or inside," he said. "I can run great hands, run good routes. I'm dependable on the field, can kick/punt return too."
