Riverside's Fifita hopes to find home soon

Even though he put up big numbers this season, Riverside LB Ofa Fifita (5-11, 225) is still looking for a place to call home in 2013. JCFootball.com caught up with the instinctive linebacker recently and he updated us on where things currently stand on the recruiting front...

Fifita prepped at Arroya Valley (San Bernardino, Ca.) and signed with Fresno State, but after two years there, he decided to leave and get a fresh start.

"I just didn't feel comfortable there," Fifita told JCFootball.com. "I was there and was all set to start as a freshman, but then I got hurt (sprained LCL) and I missed some time and then they redshirted me.

"After I redshirted, I came back and was ready to play again, but then when coach (Pat) Hill got fired, I just didn't feel like that place was the best place for me, so I decided to come home and play and see if I could get a fresh start."

Fifita signed on to play for Riverside and he took over the reigns of the defensive leadership and ran with it, leading the team with 65 tackles to go along with 11.5 tackles-for-loss, four sacks and an interception.

On the recruiting front, several schools have come after Fifita, but he has opted to keep an open mind.

"Bowling Green and Idaho both have offered me," Fifita noted. "I visited Bowling Green back in December, but it just didn't feel right to me. I liked the staff and stuff, but I just didn't think it was the right place for me, so I'm still open.

"Other than those two, I have a couple of D-2's calling me and Indiana State wants me to visit, so I might set up a visit there.

"I'm open to anyone that wants to offer me and recruit me. I am hoping I find something because I think I can play anywhere a team needs me to, but I also want to find the right school."

Fifita is on pace to graduate following winter term, but said he can wait until May or even the summer to find the right fit.

Wherever he ends up, Fifita will have two years to play two starting this fall.
