Desmond Harrison commits to Texas

San Pablo (Calif.) Contra Costa J.C. offensive lineman Desmond Harrison narrowed his choices to Arizona State, Texas and USC and committed to the Longhorns moments ago.

Desmond Harrison is among the top tackle prospects in the JUCO ranks and has tremendous upside. He took official visit to Arizona State, North Carolina State, Oklahoma, Texas and USC before cutting his list down to a final five.

"It was a really tough decision," Harrison said. "My heart was just with Texas and I have a lot of family back there. I prayed on this a lot and I just had peace about Texas, more so than I had for any other school but it really did come down to the very end for me and it was a really tough decision.

"I have two teammates going to ASU and I liked the coaches a lot. There was a time there when I thought it was going to be ASU for me. Those were my final two and then USC was right there as well and recruited me real hard. ASU probably recruited me harder than anyone and so did Oklahoma but like I said, my heart was with Texas and that sealed the deal for me."

Harris said he has three years to play two for the Horns but has no plans of redshirting.

"No, I want to get in there right away and make an impact," Harrison said. "They told me I have a starting spot at left tackle if I'm ready and that's my goal. Texas plays in a big time conference, the Big 12 and they play in a ton of big games and that was another big draw for me.

"I really like my opportunity to get in there early and show the coaches what I can do. They didn't promise me anything but just said the best players will play and I'm willing to work for it. It was stressful but right now, I feel like a huge weight is off my back. This is the most relaxed I've felt in a while so I know I made the right choice and I'm just excited to be a Longhorn."
