Tennessee signee Woody Quinn

Tennessee coaches are hoping heft and mobility will offset a glaring lack of experience for one newcomer to the program.

Woody Quinn may not be the most talented member of Tennessee's 2013 signing class but he's clearly the most intriguing. The 6-foot-6, 260-pound tight end prospect has plenty of size, agility and athleticism. He just doesn't have much experience on the football field. Still, he was agile enough to be tabbed a two-time league MVP and 2010 Section Player of the Year in volleyball while attending St. Margaret's Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano. He signed a volleyball scholarship with Pepperdine but redshirted as a freshman, then transferred to California Baptist. After playing one season of volleyball there, he opted to play junior college football at Santa Ana. Although he hadn't played the game since his freshman year of high school, he caught 15 passes for 252 yards and a touchdown in his lone year at Santa Ana. Making him even more intriguing is his bloodlines. His father, Tim, played water polo at UC-Irvine and was selected for the USA team. His brother, Johnny, was an All-America pole vaulter at UCLA. Born June 8, 1992, Woody Quinn will be 21 years old when Tennessee's 2013 season begins.
