Martin talks move to Highland and recruiting

Highland S Pat Martin (6-1, 205) spent last season at Arizona Western, but this year he will be playing for the Scotties. The talented safety already has one BCS offer and he hopes a big season in the Jayhawk Conference this fall will attract him even more offers...

After a solid season with the Matadors, Martin had offers from several schools including Arkansas State, Memphis, Nevada, New Mexico State, Oregon State, South Alabama and North Carolina and had planned to sign with the Tar Heels, but because a couple of his credits didn't transfer, he had to wait another quarter.

"I had planned to go there, but because two of my credits won't transfer, I came here to Highland to play one more season and I'll be able to sign with a school in December," Martin told JCFootball.com.

Martin is already in Kansas and preparing for a big season for the Scotties.

"I like the staff here and I think we're going to do some big things," Martin said. "I'll play safety and I can play both free or strong safety, but I'm probably a better fit in the box just because I'm good against the run and I like to be physical."

On the recruiting front, Martin still has an offer from the Tar Heels and also has been hearing from Illinois.

"(North Carolina) still wants me and they like me," Martin said. "Illinois has also been talking to me a lot too.

"I'm open to everyone and I'm going to sign in December, so I am hopeful that getting my name out there let's people know I'm still available."

Martin will have two years to play two following the 2013 football season.
