Hinds gets a 27-13 win over Holmes

RAYMOND --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-0 second quarter lead here Thursday night but fell to the Hinds Community College Eagles, 27-13, in the non-division matchup.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 2-6 overall. Holmes closed the 2013 campaign out next week in Clarksdale versus the Coahoma Community College Tigers. Gametime is 7 p.m. The game can be heard on the Bulldog Football Network at 100.1 FM, 101.1 FM or 103.9 FM or at breezynews.com. The game will also be streamed at holmesathletics.ihigh.com. The Bulldogs scored first on a 22 yard run from sophomore Fred Franklin. Cole Ballard's extra point made the score 7-0 with 12:33 to go in the second quarter.

Hinds answered the score with 5:01 to play in the first half when James Summers scampered in from 13 yards out. Joseph Houston's extra point tied the game at seven. The game was tied at halftime at seven.

Hinds scored quickly to open the second half when Summers found Keithon Redding from 40 yards out. The extra point was blocked by Terrious Triplett, and Hinds led 13-7 with 12:57 to go in the third quarter.

The Holmes defense got points on the board when Triplett blocked a Pate DeMuth punt and Jammie Jamison picked it up at the five yard line and walked in for the touchdown with 5:22 left in the third quarter. Cole Ballard's extra point was wide left and the game was tied at 13.

Hinds then added two scores in the fourth to pull out the win. Summers connected with Robert Lockhart from four yards out with 8:21 to play and then connected with Lachristopher Lee from 97 yards out with 5:25 to play. Houston's added the two extra points to end the scoring.

Darreal Joyner was the leading receiver for the Bulldogs with five catches for 48 yards. Quay Watt led the Bulldogs in tackles with 13 with a .5 tackle for loss for five yards. Jamison had 10 tackles, one tackle for loss for three yards, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Eric Hilton had seven tackles with two tackles for loss for four yards, Richard Mitchell had seven tackles including one sack for four yards and 1.5 tackles for loss for five yards. Traver Jung had .5 tackles for loss for two yards, Kenderson Obas had a sack for five yards and a tackle for loss for five yards, Triplett had one tackle for loss for four yards and Brion Ballard had 1.5 tackles for loss for 11 yards.
