Merriweather Commits To San Diego State

Saddleback CB Davontae Merriweather (6-1, 200) announced on social media today that he has committed to San Diego State...

"I have committed to San Diego State," Merriweather announced on his Facebook page.

The talented defensive back was a stalwart for the Gauchos this past season, totaling 55 tackles, one sack, 1.5 tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles, six pass breakups and a team-leading seven interception.

"I'm good when the ball is in the air. I always think it's mine," Merriweather told JCFootball.com a week ago. "I played receiver in high school and when I came here, they moved me to corner, so that's why I have pretty good ball skills."

As far as recruiting is concerned, Merriweather has full rides from the Aztecs and Utah and was getting interest from several other programs including Washington, Oregon State, UNLV and Wyoming.

"Most schools are waiting to see my transcripts and progress academically," Merriweather said. "Washington just started to pick things up with me, but since I can't get out until the summer, they wanted to see my progress."

Merriweather will have three to play two starting this fall.
