Tart Grabs Mountain West Offer

Tart Grabs Mountain West Offer

Santa Monica OL Steven Tart (6-6, 285) received his fourth offer and more could be on the way...

The talented offensive lineman informed JCFootball.com that he has received an offer from Colorado State.

The offer is Tart's fourth, joining the offers he already had from Florida Atlantic, Marshall and UAB.

Tart has also heard quite a bit from the likes of Cal, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Missouri and West Virginia among others.

As a freshman last season, Tart played at Moorpark, starting nine of 10 games.

"The only one I missed was because of a slight concussion I got in a game," Tart noted. "I was fine after a couple of days, but it's a seven-day protocol, so I had to miss that game.

"I just needed to get back closer to home and that's why I made the decision to move to Santa Monica. They have a great program here and I think the coaches are top notch."

With his length and athleticism, Tart is an ideal left tackle prospect and he said one of the things he does best is protect the quarterback. However, he said there are definitely things for him to work on this offseason and that has been his focus.

"I feel I am at my best pass-blocking. I have only given up seven sacks over the past three seasons and I've gone against some really tough competition, so I have a lot of confidence out there (on the island)," Tart said. "The big thing I want to work on this offseason is just refining my technique and also getting a lot stronger.

"When I was in high school (Taft High School in Woodland Hills, Ca.) I dominated guys, but it was mainly because I was the biggest guy out there," Tart acknowledged. "This past year, I got the job done, but I expect to dominate and I didn't do that, so it sorta opened my eyes on what I needed to work on and that is getting stronger, especially in my upper body."

Tart is working hard to finish up his two-year degree in March, but said, if not, he will finish up in May (of 2014) and he will have three years to play two following the 2014 football season.
