Massenburg's Journey Almost Complete

Dodge City DT Brennen Massenburg (6-3, 315) has been on a journey over the past couple of years to get to where he his. Now, as the season approaches, the talented defensive lineman has started to see offers roll in and he hopes a good freshman campaign will see even more come his way...

Massenburg graduated from high school in North Carolina and had planned to head to North Carolina State, however, he wound up not qualifying, so he headed up to ASA to play and to get his academics in order.

"Things didn't work out because my son was being born and I wanted to go see that, so I left and never went back," Massenburg told JCFootball.com. "I took some time off and then enrolled up at Northeastern Oklahoma and was there for the spring, but financially, I just couldn't do it, so I came down here to Dodge City and I'll be here this fall."

Even though he has yet to play a down of college football, he's made so much progress on his academics due to a huge course-load that schools have started to throw offers his way including his first FBS school.

"My latest offer is from South Alabama, but I also have offers from Southeast Missouri, Gardner-Webb, North Carolina A&T and Bethune Cookman," Massenburg noted. "I've been talking a lot with East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin too. "

At 6'3" and weighing 315 pounds, Massenburg is a handful for offensive linemen to handle on their own and he's been working hard at making things tough on his opponents.

"I've been working on my explosiveness a lot," Massenburg said. "I've been in the weight room, getting my reps in, and also working on my flexibility and agility."

Massenburg has not played a down of football at this point has been hard at work taking more than a full course-load so he can get to a four-year school as soon as possible.

He will finish up his two-year degree in May and he will have four years to play three following the 2014 football season.
