DeAngelo Willingham Has Big-12 Offer

College of the Desert's (Calif.) new head coach, Dean Dowty, has a tough job in preparing his Roadrunners for a rugged schedule. While one player does not make a team it's helpful to have someone like cornerback DeAngelo Willingham (6-1, 210) roaming the secondary. Willingham has one major offer already.

College of the Desert (Calif.) cornerback DeAngelo Willingham (6-1, 210) has one offer to his credit as he prepares for his sophomore campaign.

"I've been offered by Nebraska," said Willingham.

However, Willingham is hoping to get an offer a little closer to his home state.

"My aim is towards Auburn," said Willingham, a South Carolina native.  "It would be cool if Clemson or South Carolina recruited me some, but I'm liking Auburn a lot."

Willingham prepped at Calhoun County High in St. Matthews, S.C., but after his senior season netted him no offers, he went the JC route, which is turning out to be a wise decision.

"My high school coach asked me if I wanted to go D-I and I said yes.  So he got me in contact with College of the Desert and I came out here last season," said Willingham.

In his first season at C.O.D., he had three interceptions and was a first-team all-Foothill Conference selection.

Aside from the four previously mentioned schools, Willingham said he was receiving interest from Florida, Oregon and Oregon State.

"It doesn't really matter to me where I play, out here, down south, I just want to play D-I," said Willingham.

Willingham said he plans to take an official trip to Nebraska this fall and would like to take the other four he will be allotted.  He anticipates making a decision in December.

"Hopefully, I'll be graduating in December so I can leave then," said Willingham.

Should he leave then, he would be able to participate in Spring Practice.  He would have three seasons to play two years.
