And this business major is working as hard in the classroom as he is on the
field with a 2.58 GPA. So what does he like to do when he has some free time?
“Cut hair.”
Really?
“Yes, I’m the team’s barber.”
When he’s not busy coiffing Mohawks and crew cuts for his teammates, Robinson
plays with intensity and determination. “I’m very demanding of myself. I refuse
to give up, and even if I drop a ball, I come back harder the next play.”
Robinson played high school football at South Dade Senior High in Miami where
he caught 20 passes for 500 yards and 4 touchdowns. But more importantly, that’s
where he met the single most influential person in his life, Coach Wilbanks.
“Coach Wilbanks never talks down or gives up on a player. No one has inspired
me more than him.”
After graduating this year, Robertson will likely attend one of the schools
that have been most actively recruiting him: Kansas, Kansas State, Tulsa, New Mexico, LSU, and USC. Does he have a preference?
“I’d like to play at USC, but I’ll go to any program that will give me a
chance.”
The hardest part of playing JC ball in Minnesota is being away from his
family. “My wife and son are still in Miami. I’m hoping they’ll get to come up
for a visit and see a game or two.”
With 3 years to play 2 at the next level, Robinson’s favorite play is --
what else? -- the fly pattern. It seems likely that after this season,
Robinson will continue to fly.
All he needs is a chance.
