Yuba College WR Marcus Allen

Yuba College WR Marcus Allen

A basketball player by trade, Yuba (Calif.) College receiver Marcus Allen (6-2, 185), didn't know much about JC football or about California.

Yet here he is two years later starring in JC football in, well, California.

"I was a basketball player, and I didn't really know there was JC football," said Allen.  "A student I knew told me about the school, and I ended up here."

Since his arrival at Yuba, Allen has been making a mark on the football record books for the 49ers.

In his first season, Allen set the schools single season receiving yards record as well as the single season touchdown record en route to being named Bay Valley Conference MVP and an all-state selection.  In 2006, Allen set a school record by catching four touchdown passes in one game.

Toledo, a school known for its prolific offenses under Tom Amstutz, was the first school to offer Allen, and several other schools have been by to check on him.

"Cal came to see me, so did Oregon," said Allen.  "Other schools standing out to me are Utah, Florida and Washington State."

A 2005 grad out of Jackson High in Miami, Allen said that only Western Michigan was showing interest in him.  With limited knowledge about what to do next, he took the info he had and headed West, which has turned out well for him.

"I'm looking at a lot of schools that want me as a receiver," said Allen.  "I'll probably take my visits after our bowl game.  Toledo is a little out of the way right now, but I'm still looking at them."

This year, Allen had 60 catches for 998 yards and 18 touchdowns during the regular season and more during his teams bowl game win over Monterey Peninsula. Allen was one of the most talked about WRs in northern California this season.
