JC Profile: Alfred State RB Nabil El-Amin

It's a shame, but sometimes a talented player who deserves a shot at a D-1 scholarship gets overlooked. That's the case with Alfred State RB Nabil El-Amin who put up outstanding stats in 2006 and is an outstanding receiver as well.

"He is just a complete football player," Alfred State head coach Mick Caba told JCFootball.com. "For the past two years he’s been our leading receiver and he led the conference in rushing this past year with 911 yards. He can play out of the one-back sets and split-back sets. He’s the best receiver in the conference."

For his part, El-Amin is humble about his accomplishments and said he'd play anywhere to help his team.

"I think I can play anywhere," El-Amin said. "I like playing back but I feel like I could do well at receiver or even on defense if that's where a team wants me to play. I'm okay with that."

His versatility as an athlete allowed him to play some of his time out of the slot and out wide at receiver and also in the backfield in Alfred State's spread attack.

"We didn’t really play him on defense, but he could have for us," Caba said. "He would have been one of those old-time, iron-man players if we had played him on defense – he wouldn’t have left the field.

"On special teams he’s on our coverage units and he’s the first one down the field. He can do it all."

As a receiver, El-Amin hauled in 22 catches for 327 yards and four touchdowns in addition to his rushing total of 911 yards and 10 touchdowns.

"He's an excellent receiver and he's very explosive," Caba said. "He's got incredible acceleration and that allows him to do so many things really well."

"Last year, during the offseason, me and my brother really worked on our speed and our footwork," El-Amin said about his brother Raji who now plays for Rhode Island. "We had the speed ladder out there every day and we did drills to really focus on our footwork.

"It helped me be more explosive in my cuts and I could hit the holes quicker and better. It made me make plays this past year that I didn't make as a freshman."

On the recruiting front, interest has been tepid at best but El-Amin may have some options eventually.

"Arkansas wants him as a defensive back and I think he could be excellent there," Caba said. "Cincinnati got film on Nabil before the staff left to go to Michigan State. Now we're hoping that they'll still look at him for the Spartans.

"Miami is another school that is looking at him. They like him at wide receiver. Their coaches called me after the coaching change was made and said they were interested in him. We sent them tape of him so we're hoping to hear something soon."

El-Amin graduates in May and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up and he said he's looking to major in communications.
