We finally got a chance to catch up with Los Angeles Harbor WR Deryn Bowser (6-3, 215) who has had a…
Prospect Profile: LA Harbor WR Deryn Bowser
"A few times a week, for about two or three hours, we head over to the sand dunes that aren't too far away and we work on sprints and getting my legs stronger. It hurts, but it will pay off this fall."
As a freshman for the Seahawks, Bowser had 55 receptions for 1,021 yards and 10 touchdowns and was named to the All-State team.
"I had a lot of fun last year," Bowser said. "But there are so many things I can work on to get better and to help my team out more. That's why I keep working so hard. I want to be the best I can be and I think I can be the best in the country if I put in the time."
After attending Washington Prep in Los Angeles, Bowser didn't get recruited very hard by many schools and he also didn't qualify, so he decided to head to the best school he could find and that was Los Angeles Harbor.
"I spoke to my brother who was going here and he told me they did a good job of sending guys on to four year schools and that's one of the big reason's why I decided to come here," Bowser said. "I also met with the coaches and talked with them and I just felt they were the ones that would help push me on to bigger and better things."
As far as recruiting is concerned, things are just getting started for this big-time athlete who runs a legit 4.5 forty and has an astounding 41-inch vertical to go with his big frame.
"Arizona State, Nebraska, Oregon, Cal, Iowa State and Colorado are the ones I'm hearing from the most right now," Bowser said. "More schools have talked to my coach about getting my film and transcripts to see how close I am to graduating."
Bowser expects to finish his two-year degree in December with three to play two and that has schools clamoring to see what he's all about.
"When I'm going to decide on a school, basically it will come down to three things," Bowser said. "First off, they have to have my major (likely Kinesiology) and have a good department for that; second, is location -- I want to stay pretty close to home; and third it's playing time, but my guess is that if a team wants to offer me and bring me in, they aren't bringing me in to sit on the bench."
Bowser will be at the JC Gridwire combine at Citrus College on Saturday May 12th. We'll have more from him in the coming months.
