Citrus DE Devin Johnson gets first two offers
Even though he didn't have the best technique, as a freshman for Citrus, Johnson still posted 3.5 sacks, 22 tackles, seven tackles for loss and three batted passes as a part-timer.
This year, the graduate of Rancho Cucamonga, said he plans to have a much better season as a full-time player.
"I want to be an all-around defender," Johnson said. "I want to play the run as well as I rush the quarterback. It takes hard work, but that's why I'm working so hard right now. You do the most to help yourself during the offseason and that's what I plan to do this year."
On the recruiting front, Johnson has two offers to his name and he's hearing from a third school that could be close to sending him something official soon as well.
"Oregon and Kansas State offered me late in March," Johnson said. "Coach (Ron) Prince from Kansas State and I talked for a little bit and he said they really want me to come out there and play for them. He really liked my film and said they would be excited if I would come there.
"Coach (Mike) Bellotti is a great coach and they have a great program. I'm going up there for their spring game the last weekend of April and he said he couldn't wait to get me up there for the weekend so we could talk a little bit more."
Utah is the other school making the most contact with Johnson and he said they were planning to come to his school in May to get a better look at him.
"I'm totally open to everyone and I'll wait a while before I make a decision," Johnson said. "I am hoping to have as many options as possible before I make a decision and I'd like to take a couple of trips to see all of the schools."
Even though he's a ways away from making a final decision, Johnson said he knows what criteria will help him make his final decision.
"How far away from home it is will be a big thing," Johnson said. "I'm a California boy, so weather will play a little bit into too and also how good the team is. I want to win and be a part of winning things, so that will be a factor too."
Johnson will finish his two-year degree in May and will have two years to play two wherever he ends up.
