A big, athletic offensive tackle is a luxury most teams would love to have on their roster and…
Jacques becoming a hot commodity
"After I looked at some things and talked with the staff, they basically made me feel at home and like I could come out here and play pretty quickly. So I came out and the rest is history."
Jacques started every game for Sequoias in 2006 and will again be manning the all-important left tackle spot this year and he's ready to take on the responsibility for protecting the quarterback's blind side.
"I love being responsible for that and having that kind of pressure placed on my shoulders," Jacques admitted. "It's tough though because we face off against some really talented guys and I have to go up against our defensive ends and that's tough every day."
With his size and physical abilities – 5.0 forty time, 375 pound bench press and a 485 pound squat – Jacques is the prototype tackle and several BCS schools have made it known they are going to be watching him this fall.
"Purdue has really been heating up and talking to me a lot," Jacques, who doesn't claim any offers yet, said. "They said they like what I have to offer and that they like me a lot.
"UCLA, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Arizona State are the other ones that have been pretty serious about talking to me as well. I'm pretty much open to anyone that wants to recruit me and talk to me. I'm going to wait and take all my visits before I make any kind of a decision."
Even with all of the attention, Jacques isn't sitting on his laurels. He's working hard on several things this offseason to make him an even better player.
"I'm working really hard in the weight room right now with my coaches and my teammates," Jacques said. "I'm also working really hard on my techniques. I want to be the best I can be and I want to be able to handle either the speed guys or the bull-rush guys."
Jacques hopes to graduate in December, but says he's definitely on pace to finish in May and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
