Simmons could be in Oxford this weekend

A lighting-quick corner who has a lot of schools looking at him right now is College of the Sequoias CB Traye Simmons (5-11, 180) and now that his season is finished, he's looking to make a decision on some more visits. Read on to see his thoughts on his season as well as what schools have turned up the heat as far as recruiting is concerned.

"We lost to Sierra on Saturday 59-57 so we're done for the year," Simmons said on Sunday night. "Carl Moore is a great receiver and I talked to him a little after the game. He's a great guy.

"He and I faced off about half the game and he didn't catch a pass on me, but he still finished with seven catches for 70 yards and a touchdown, so it was tough to stop him."

Simmons finished the season with 32 tackles and 12 passes broken up, but he didn't have an interception.

"It was sort of a frustrating year in that regard," Simmons said with a laugh. "Nobody threw my way, but I had a couple of chances and didn't get one so it was a little frustrating."

Simmons visited Minnesota a little over a month ago and came away impressed with his visit to the "Twin Cities".

"I flew into Minneapolis and it was great," Simmons said. "I came away really impressed with the school and the coaches and the program in general. I didn't really think I would be that impressed with them, but they really opened my eyes to what they were trying to do and how they are looking for guys to compete with the best the Big 10 has to throw at them.

"I'd say that Minnesota is my leader right now, but that could change after I take some more visits. I know that I like them a lot though."

Ole Miss is a school who could get a visit soon as well.

"Mississippi's coaches have been talking to me a lot," Simmons said. "They gave me my choice. I could come out this weekend (11/17) for their game against LSU or I could wait and come out on December 1st so I need to make a decision on that soon.

"Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas State and Tennessee have also been coming on really strong lately for me. They all have gotten tape on me and said they like what they've seen, but they want to make sure on how things come down so they haven't offered yet, but they could be close.

"Cal, North Carolina and North Carolina State are the other schools who have offered that I'm looking at pretty closely and might visit."

Simmons will graduate in December with three years to play two wherever he ends up.

We'll have more from Simmons in the coming weeks as he firms up his plans for visits.
