McKenna still waiting on some offers Premium Story

A big mystery has been why QB A.J. McKenna (6-5, 225) doesn't have any offers after two outstanding seasons at Lackawanna. He recently took a trip to western Pennsylvania to watch the Pitt Panthers take on South Florida and he came away impressed but without an offer. Now he's focusing on some other schools who may be getting close to offers as well.

"I liked it at Pittsburgh" McKenna told JCFootball.com recently. "It's a football town and the school's fans were going nuts and the atmosphere was really good.

"They ended up losing, but the fans seem to be excited by the way they're playing and they have some really talented young players."

Even though he didn't get an offer from Pittsburgh head coach Dave Wannstedt he hopes to hear something soon from the coaches of his favorite.

"I've always liked that area and they have a great history," McKenna said. "They said they will probably offer me when they come and visit me, but we haven't set that up yet so we just need to figure out when they will be here and then hopefully I get an offer."

Other than Pitt, Tennessee, North Carolina State, Boston College and Rutgers are also in hot pursuit as well.

"I may go visit N.C. State and Rutgers, but right now I don't have anything set up," McKenna said. "Tennessee is a great school and they graduate their starter so I know I could go in there and compete right away and B.C. is the same way so I hopefully will have some options."

For the season, McKenna led Lackawanna to a 7-3 record throwing for over 1,900 yards, 19 touchdowns and only two interceptions while rushing for close to 500 more yards and five scores as well.

"We're used to winning here so this past year was a disappointment for me and for us as a team," McKenna said. "I was a little frustrated with how we played at times, but as the quarterback it's up to me to get us going so I think I was able to do that when we needed it."

McKenna was a late-qualifier out of high school so he can leave at any time. He expects to make a decision pretty quickly and sign with whichever team he commits to on December 15th and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
