Ole Miss commit now looking around

City College of San Francisco takes on Sierra today in the Hawaiian Punch Bowl and one of the leaders on offense for the Rams is C Ben Contreras (6-3, 290) who was an early commit to Ole Miss, but since the Rebels have a new head man, he's unsure where he stands. Schools have continued to contact him and he's hoping to get some tape out to those schools soon and see what else is out there.

"This year has been a lot of fun for me," Contreras told JCFootball.com recently. "Last year I moved from tackle to center and was sort of thrown into the job, but this year I came in prepared for things and what the position called for and I really felt comfortable.

"I got first team All-Conference and then I found out (Friday) that I was going to be a first-team All-American so that was pretty cool."

Contreras committed to Ole Miss in October after visiting Oxford in September, but following a 3-9 season head coach Ed Orgeron was let go.

"I'm not really sure what's going on with Ole Miss right now," Contreras said. "I still like them a lot and would still really like to go there, but I haven't gotten to talk to the new coach yet.

"I actually put in a call to coach (Houston) Nutt earlier this week, but didn't reach him and I'm not sure if he can call me or not, so I need to try him again next week after we play this weekend."

Other schools have also been back in contact with Contreras.

"Well, besides Ole Miss, Portland State and Sacramento State offered me so I still have those," Contreras said. "But schools like Arizona, Arizona State, USC, Tennessee, UNLV, Utah, Utah State and New Mexico have all asked for my film this year and said they are all interested in me.

"They were all recruiting me before, but when I committed to Ole Miss so I think they kind of gave up because I really liked Ole Miss a lot. Now, with things up in the air, I have to make sure that I have a place to go so I need to keep an open mind, but I would ultimately like to end up at Ole Miss if they new coaches still want me."

Contreras will finish up his course-work in December and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.

We'll continue to follow his progress and give updates as recruiting begins to hit its critical point.
