One of the more unknown quarterbacks in the California JUCO ranks this year was L.A. Southwest QB Troy Jackson (6-2.5, 225). He didn’t put up huge numbers for the Cougars, but he’s still hearing from several D-1 schools and he spoke recently about his season and how recruiting is coming along.
“We started off running out of the spread, four-wide, but in week three we went to the I-formation,” Jackson told JCFootball.com recently. “We had a really good back to hand off to so I didn’t put up a lot of numbers, but I had to become more of a game manager and I think I did that pretty well.”
Jackson still managed to toss 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while also throwing for over 1,000 yards.
“I have a strong arm and I like to drop back and throw it around,” Jackson said. “It’s fun to be a pocket passer, but I can move around and avoid things if I need to.”
Jackson has been getting some recruiting interest from several schools and said that he hopes to take a few more visits before he makes a decision.
“I visited
UTEP
about three weeks ago and I had a lot of fun down there,” Jackson said. “Their school is nice and they have a good program and facilities. Their coaches were really easy to talk to and I felt pretty comfortable there.
“Sacramento State offered me at the beginning of the season and they’ve been on me since I was in high school and then
East Carolina
, Montana State, Montana, Louisiana-Monroe,
Buffalo
and
Western Kentucky
have all been coming on a little harder at me recently.”
Jackson said he expects to graduate in February from Harbor and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
We’ll continue to follow his progress and update things as they change.
