Plans on hold for Bower

The top-rated JC team for most of the year was Bakersfield College and the leader on the field for the Renegades was QB Jacob Bower (6-4, 235). He is one of the top quarterback prospects in the country and has received a lot of interest, but a visit that was set up for this weekend has been rescheduled and he's starting to look at some other programs as well.

"I found out that I can't really sign with a Mountain West school," Bower told JCFootball.com recently. "Since I was at BYU and then I left, if I were to go back to a Mountain West school, I would have to sit out one more year and I can't do that so I had to start looking at some other schools.

"It's pretty frustrating because teams like San Diego State, Colorado State, Utah and TCU were all recruiting me pretty hard, but with me having to sit out, I just can't do that."

This coming weekend, Bower was scheduled to visit Hawaii, but there's a chance that head coach June Jones could be headed to another school and that's put the visit to the islands on hold.

"They told me they wanted to make sure things were all in place before I was to go visit over there," Bower said. "They want to bring in two JC quarterbacks, so it sounds like they would have room for both of us (Bower and Mt. San Antonio's Kevin Craft).

"If coach Jones goes somewhere else I might look there, but I'm just keeping my options open to any school that wants to recruit me."

Bower tripped to Troy this past weekend and said he had fun.

"They play Ohio State and LSU next year so you'd be playing against some big-time programs and some great players there," Bower said. "Boise State started recruiting me again this past week and so they are another school I'm going to look at."

Rumors have also swirled about current Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow possibly getting a job as a head coach and Bower's relationship with Chow could play a part in where he ends up as well.

"He's been a family friend for a long time so I would feel really comfortable with him if he was able to bring me in somewhere," Bower said.

We'll continue to update Bower's status over the next few months as he gets serious about signing his letter-of-intent.
