Lackawanna QB opts for Jackson State

One of the more gifted signal-callers in the Northeast Football Conference this past season was Lackawanna QB A.J. McKenna (6-5, 225) and he'd received a lot of early attention from some BCS schools. However, after analyzing things, McKenna opted to go the D-1AA route and will sign with Jackson State this week.

"I committed to Jackson State and I'll be there next week to start school and start working out with the team," an excited McKenna told JCFootball.com on Tuesday. "They have a lot of history down there, Walter Payton played there, and they run the spread and they said that I can come in right away and play which was big for me."

McKenna had verbal offers from schools like Pittsburgh and Rutgers, but both told him he would need to redshirt a season before he could legitimately see the field and that didn't appeal to the big man from Pennsylvania.

"I liked those schools and all, but Jackson State is where I want to be," McKenna said. "They have a good program, they just won their conference last year and they have good coaches who prepare them well.

"I just felt at home there and feel like it's the best place for me."

When McKenna arrives he'll have three years to play two with the Tigers.
