Butler duo still looking for places to play

Every year at this time, there are talented JC players who are still looking to find four-year programs to sign with. Two who have gone overlooked so far are Butler S Kyle Woodall (Pictured) and LB James Schneider. Both were leaders on a defense that helped Butler go 12-0 and win the NJCAA National Championship.

"Kyle was our strong safety and voted captain by his peers this year," Butler defensive coordinator Tim Schaffner said. "After splitting time between linebacker and safety as a freshman, we moved Kyle to safety last spring and he did a great job for us."

Woodall finished with 40 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, one sack, three interceptions, six passes broken up, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries while generally being a thorn in most offenses' side.

At 6-2, 210 pounds, Woodall is super strong, putting up 355 pounds on the bench press while also posting solid speed numbers -- a 4.52 forty time -- as well.

"(Woodall) can play on the hash and he has very good ball skills, but he's better suited and more comfortable playing in the box," Schaffner said. "He can also play linebacker depending on a team's schemes and needs.
"Kyle is also an intelligent player. Kyle has tremendous work ethic and is a good enough player to force some of our highly touted, “5-star” out-of-state recruits to either transfer or redshirt."

Schneider is a player who made the switch from outside linebacker to the MIK position when the need arose for a player to step up and play the position and he flourished during the season. He missed two games due to an MCL strain (that has since fully healed), but he still managed to post 70 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, three sacks, one interception (which he returned for a touchdown), three passes broken up, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

He also found time to play on the special teams units and registered a blocked field goal as well.

"James is 6-1, 220 pounds and has a 350 bench press and runs a consistent 4.55," Schaffner said. "James can play all three linebacker spots and as I said, he was our starting WIL until personnel issues forced his move inside to MIK. James is an intelligent player and has tremendous work ethic."

Butler always produces a ton of talented players and the coaches are surprised these two haven't found homes to this point.

Both were full-qualifiers out of high school and both will have three years to play two starting next fall.
