Josker is the center of attention

It's tough to find a reliable player to man the pivot, but Moorpark C Steven Josker (6-3.5, 288) holds it down for the Raiders. After a solid freshman season, the hard-nosed and savvy center from southern California already has several schools looking at him and he updated JCFootball.com on his offseason so far and how recruiting is coming along.

"It's been good for me," Josker told JCFootball.com when asked about recruiting. "I've gotten contact from South Florida, Syracuse, Arizona, Alabama and New Hampshire so far, but I know it's really early so I'm not real caught up in it all too much rich now."

Josker prepped at Grace Brethren in Simi Valley, Ca. and he was a leader on his team, however he didn't get much in the way of recruiting attention so he decided to go the JC-route in order to garner some D-1 looks.

"I fully qualified so it wasn't that," Josker said. "I just didn't get any offers, so instead of walking on at a school, I decided to come to Moorpark and see what I could get after a couple years here."

Josker admitted that he has some things to work on and he's been focused on that so far this offseason.

"I'm quick off the ball and I can get to the second level pretty easily," Josker said. "I really want to get faster though. I run in the 5.4 range right now and I'm working really hard at getting that down to 5.0 or 5.1 and I want to get stronger because right now I'm only benching 315 and I want that to be higher before I leave.

"I'm in the gym six days a week right now. I'm really focused on that and when I get focused I never quit on a goal."

Also helping Josker's case is that his father, who was hired at Moorpark after he signed with the Raiders, has guided him since he was a little boy.

"I've been playing football for 11 years now and my dad is a big reason I am where I am," Josker said. "He's gotten me involved since I was a little kid so I can recognize what defenses are trying to do and what they want to accomplish with their different fronts, so I don't usually get fooled by stuff like that."

Since Josker qualified out of high school, he's free to leave at any time and he expects to sign in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
