A versatile defensive back that made a name for himself last year was Butte CB Lametrius Davis (6-0, 193). He’s had a good offseason and he’s already starting to hear from several BCS programs. JCFootball.com caught up with him and he updated us on recruiting as well as where his focus lies as he heads into his second season of college football.

“I’ve been working really hard this winter,” Davis told JCFootball.com recently. “I played a lot of bump-and-run and cover three in high school, but in college you play more zone, so I’ve been studying film to understand formations and recognize routes. Our defense is a Bear defense, so you have to do it all well.

“I want to get better at breaking on the ball and anticipating things a little more. I’ve been working really hard on my agility and quickness. My flexibility is also a huge key for me.”

Last year, Davis was solid in coverage posting 32 tackles and double-digit pass break ups. He says his strength is using his 4.45 speed and strength to redirect receivers and then make a play on the ball when it’s in the air.

“I run well, so I’m confident I can run with receivers,” Davis said. “I feel like I can handle anyone in coverage so it’s really better if I learn what I’m doing in zone to become a complete corner.”

Davis prepped at Roosevelt High School in Portland, Oregon and he’s already got a favorite, but he’s open to any school that wants to recruit him.

Oregon State is my school,” Davis said. “I’ve always liked them. I had a great relationship with their DB coach, but he left to go to Nevada so they started recruiting me too.

“I’ve also gotten a lot of stuff from Arizona State, Washington State, Washington, Middle Tennessee, LSU, Akron, Fresno State, Nevada and most of the Big East schools come through here so I'm looking to hear from them too.”

Davis will graduate in December and he’ll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
