College of the Sequoias LB Aaron Gress (6-2, 219) is a player that fans will get to know more of this fall. As a freshman for the Giants he quietly had a big season and this year he promises more of the same. JCFootball.com caught up with him and he updated us on his offseason as well as what schools have been making the most contact early in the recruiting season.

“I played safety for most of the games last year, but then a couple of linebackers got injured so I moved up and played there,” Gress told JCFootball.com recently. “I think linebacker is a really good position for me because I wasn’t as strong in coverage so that has been what I’ve been focusing on this offseason and during spring ball.

“Right now I’m set up to play weakside, but I could end up playing any of the three linebacker positions. I’m really open to playing anywhere and it really doesn’t matter to me, I just want to play ball and help us win.”

As a hybrid safety/linebacker, Gress posted 65 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, four passes broken up and one sack.

He hasn’t started hearing from many schools to this point, but his coaches have stated they think things will heat up during the May evaluation period.

TCU has been in contact and told me they like what they’ve seen of me so far,” Gress said. “Other than that, I haven’t really heard directly from very many schools.

“I’m open to everyone and whoever wants to recruit me I’ll take a look at them and the situation there. Distance isn’t much of a factor for me, but I’d like to stay as close to home (Exeter, Ca.) as possible. It all comes down to whatever the right situation is and where I fit in best.”

Gress was a full-qualifier out of high school and he currently carries a 3.9 GPA so he can leave at any time, but he expects to graduate in December and he’ll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
