Carmack gets in the middle of the action

A physically imposing interior defensive lineman is a luxury to have and El Camino DT Jimmie Carmack (6-4, 297) looks the part and this fall he plans to play that part. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented run-stuffer and he updated us on things.

Carmack prepped at Palos Verdes High School and signed with San Diego State out of high school, but after a redshirt season, he decided to move on and find a new home.

“I just didn’t feel comfortable there anymore honestly,” Carmack told JCFootball.com recently. “Things weren’t going too well and I just wanted to move on and find a more serious football program, where football was sorta the focus for the school.”

Carmack started looking around and found El Camino to fit his needs and he played in the rotation behind some great defensive tackles as a redshirt freshman.

“Justin (Thompson) was great and I learned a lot from him,” Carmack said. “The coaches here are really good and they showed us different things and they like to let us attack so I learned a lot this past year and I’ll be using that this year to help me get better.

“I’m really physical and I go 100% every play. Strength has never been an issue for me, so I’m really just working on my agility and my overall athleticism.”

On the recruiting front, quite a few four-year programs have been out to see El Camino’s spring practices and a few have spoken with Carmack about their interest in him.

“Texas Tech, Arizona, Oregon, Louisville, LSU are the main ones,” Carmack said. “They all came by the school and watched us and said they liked what they saw.

“I could only really work out in front of Louisville, because I tweaked my knee, but the others seemed pretty interested.”

Because Carmack qualified out of high school and he’ll complete his AA degree this summer, he is eligible to leave and play somewhere else this fall. If he does that, he’ll have three years to play three. Should he stay and play with the Warriors this fall, he’ll sign with a school in December and he’ll have two years to play two when he steps on campus.
