Shelley makes the most of his opportunities
"I followed one of our defensive coaches up here because he was a good coach and he said when he got up here that it was a good school and a good area," Shelley said. "After the staff got let go, I just didn't feel very comfortable there at For Valley so I just decided I needed a change."
As a freshman, Shelley wracked up solid numbers -- 30 receptions for 427 yards and six touchdowns in nine games.
"I play mainly out of the slot for us, but I split out wide sometimes too," Shelley said. "I have the speed to blow past guys, but it's more about quickness for me. If I can get off the line and make good cuts and get in and out of my breaks, that's actually more important for me.
"I feel like I can do it all. I can work the middle, I can go deep and I can work the sidelines. Whatever my QB needs from me to get open, that's what I will do."
In addition to his solid production, Shelley has excellent physical skills posting a 4.27 forty time, a 38-inch vertical and nine reps of 225 pounds at the JCFootball.com Midwest Combine held last month.
On the recruiting front, Shelley isn't getting much in the way of interest at this point, but he hopes things pick up in the near future.
"I'm not sure all the four year schools know I'm back for this season," Shelley said. "I'm trying to get my highlights out to some schools and just let them know where I am and that I'm available after this fall.
"I'm interested in anyone that wants to recruit me and bring me in, but Louisville, Arizona State, Illinois, Georgia and Florida are schools that I'm really interested in because of the offenses they run and their programs."
Shelley will be able to sign with a school in December and he'll have two years to play two wherever he ends up.
We'll continue to track his progress and update things as they happen.
