Seemingly every year, Blinn College is at the top of the JC rankings and this year is no different.…
Parish's versatility helps Blinn defense
"I had good enough grades, but I didn't get a good enough score on the SAT," Parish said. "After talking with coach Fran (Brad Franchione) I knew that Blinn is where I wanted to be and to play.
"They have a great program here and with all the players they have here, it's all about competition every day and that either makes you better or you fall back, so it's made me really focus on what I have to do to improve."
Last year, Parish moved around to three different positions for the Buccaneers, playing middle linebacker and defensive end before finally settling in as the weakside linebacker.
"With Sterling (Lewis) and Gary (Ragston) here, we already had some really good linebackers," Parish said. "So I played defensive end for four games, the MIK position for four or five games and then I finished playing at the WIL for two or three games."
This summer, Parish has been working on getting faster and getting off the ball better.
"It's been all about speed and quickness and my agility training," Parish, who already runs a 4.49 forty, said. "I've been working really hard on the ladders and doing sprints and being explosive.
"I love to blitz and I've gotten a lot better in coverage, so I feel like I'm a complete linebacker and that I can do whatever a school wants me to do out there."
On the recruiting front, Parish has already been getting plenty of early attention, but he said he's not close to making a decision.
"Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, UNLV and New Mexico have all offered me," Parish said. "Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, USC, Ole Miss and Arkansas have all been calling me too.
"I want to take my visits and check out the schools before I make my decision. It's all about their program, the coaches, the players and the education and how comfortable I feel when I'm there."
Parish is on pace to graduate in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
