Muheize still flying under the radar

After a tumultuous two years, Grossmont S Abraham Muheize (5-11, 205) has settled in to become a factor in the Griffins' secondary. He spoke with JCFootball.com recently and updated us on things including what happened after he signed with Montana State and what has led him to be recruitable yet again.

"I signed with Montana State in 2007, but the entire coaching staff got fired after spring ball so it was sorta a crazy time," Muheize told JCFootball.com recently. "I had to decide what I was going to do and I didn't feel comfortable staying there so I came back to Grossmont and then right before the start of my season I tore the ACL in my left leg, so I sat out last year and I got a medical redshirt."

Muheize prepped at El Cahon High School and didn't get a lot of interest following his prep career, so he headed to Grossmont even though he was a full-qualifier.

"This is a great program here," Muheize said. "I really love it here and the staff is great."

So far, Muheize said he's back to 100% and it's showing on the field. He already has over 30 tackles and three interceptions while playing free safety.

"I played corner in college, but I moved to safety when I got here," Muheize said. "I play free safety now, more of a center field position, but I can come up and cover the slot when I need to and I feel comfortable doing that."

Muheize's excellent size is complemented nicely by his 4.6 speed and his 34-inch vertical, but on the recruiting front schools have held off in recruiting the playmaking safety prospect.

"I haven't heard a lot from D-1 schools," Muheize said. "I'm hearing from Texas Southern and North Carolina Central a lot and Houston actually came out a week or so ago and watched us play and they told my coaches they liked me, but I just haven't heard that much from D-1 schools, it's mostly D-1AA."

Muheize will have his two-year degree in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
