Watts sees recruiting pick up

Butte was named the JC Gridwire National Champion after finishing the season 12-0. One of the reasons for the Roadrunners' success was their defense and one of the leaders of the defense was LB Jon Watts (6-3, 240) who made plays all over the field. Even with his stalwart play, Watts hasn't seen much in the way of recruiting attention but things are starting to pick up...

Watts had a solid freshman season in 2007, posting 43 tackles, 9.5 tackles-for-loss, five sacks and one blocked kick while earning First Team All-Nor Cal honors, but in 2008 he was one of the best in California as he totaled over 70 tackles, 10 sacks, 15 tackles-for-loss and an amazing 12 passes defensed and was again named First Team All-Nor Cal as well as to the All-Region team.

"They moved me around a lot," Watts told JCFootball.com. "I blitzed, I dropped back in coverage, I did everything I guess."

On the recruiting front, things have been slowly starting to pick up for Watts and the weekend after Thanksgiving he took a visit to Middle Tennessee.

"They offered me and I went out and visited them," Watts said. "They have a good program and they want to play a more attacking style of defense, so they want to be aggressive and that's what I like to do."

Also in the mix are Washington State, Kansas and Marshall, none of which have offered at this point.

"Washington State has been wanting me to take a visit up there to check them out," Watts said. "They said I fit their style really well, but right now I'm not thinking I'm going to visit them until after the first of the year.

"It's the same with Kansas and Marshall. Both of them are really on me about visiting, but I'm going to go back to Florida for the holidays and I'll set something up in January with them."

Watts will graduate in May and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
